Pt. Radix or Bust
This Coasteering adventure starts just before Ortoire village and ends at the beginning of Mayaro Bay. This trek is by no means for the faint hearted for you are sure to get your fill of challenging terrain, swims and perhaps some rope work.
Tour Details:
As far as Coasteering Adventures go, the ‘Pt. Radix or Bust’ tour is nothing short of a full experience.
Here you will get a taste of everything and leave with the memories of a lifetime. You will see
magnificent areas of Trinidad’s coastline that are essentially inaccessible for most and hence hardly ever
traversed.
This coastal trek starts on the Manzanilla strip, just before the south-eastern village of Ortoire. As we
make our way toward Pt. Radix and eventually to the start of the Mayaro bay, we take on the
Ortoire river crossing, very soon into the journey.
The strip just before this crossing, is dubbed ‘the Twlight Zone’. This is due to the remnants of
religious trinkets seemingly used in past rituals, which you may see along the way. On this strip,
there is also a good chance of encountering the Northern Crested Caracara bird of prey perched
along the coastline.
The 1.5km/0.99mi segment subsequent to the crossing, is the gateway to a series of secluded bays
and breath taking cliff faces; fell free to practice some of your bouldering (rock climbing) skills as we
progress.
Onward bound to Pt. Radix, then to Mayaro Bay, we will embark on a series of rock climbs, the last
one of which, is a bit in excess of 20m/65ft and will surely get those adrenaline glans flowing. if the tide is accommodating however, we can cut through this land mass through a tunnel; its quicker and equally as thrilling!
As we traverse this coastline, we will also be inevitably faced with open water swim segments between the climbs and rock scrambles. Some of these can cover just over 1km/0.6mi and can prove to be quite challenging; don your fins for these segments and all will be fine!
All along your journey, you will have your fill of epic scenery, magnificent topography, challenging
terrain and perhaps some juvenile Green Turtle encounters. At the end of it all, and what will at that
stage feel like much much more than 11km/6.8mi traversed, you will of course have that unparalleled sense of accomplishment.
NB: If you do not have previous experience using rappelling/rock climbing gear and not familiar with
the techniques used for these activities, you will be required to participate in the CoolBlue Adventures Rock Climbing/Rappelling Experience (see our listings), prior to embarking on this
expedition.
