Tour Details:
Before the river exploration action starts, this tour affords you the opportunity to embrace the beauty of the Paramin Village and the peaceful, incredible views she offers. For this segment you will be escorted by 4x4 vehicles; an adventure in itself!
Along the way there will be a guided visit to ‘Our Lady of Guadeloupe R.C. Church’. This is the very first church erected in Paramin (1999) and the walls are built entirly of stone forged from the land upon which it stands.
Another pit stop will be the Colosseum Cave. Here you can stretch those legs, on the short 10-minute trek through a chive garden to the cave. This is a perfect warm up for what’s yet to come! On this segment you will surely get a distinct aromatic jolt of the famous Paramin herb fields.
Meyah River
You are now at Meyah River and your 3km/1.9mi adventure to Blue Basin Falls begins here. A short rappel and a refreshing soak in her first pool, will put you in the right gear for the upcoming thrills!
Onward to Blue Basin
This waterway is the source of the Blue Basin Pools. The trek from here, will take you through the old Cameron Valley cocoa estate. Under her dense canopy, you will get your fill of crags, gullies and cascades.
Each of these features are striking and will offer ample opportunities for jumps, scrambles, climbs and more rappelling fun! The topography of this segment is a gratifying lead up to the final descent into the delight of Blue Basin Waterfall.
From this point you will be shuttled back to your start point; another box ticked!
Fun fact
The Meyah River is quite significant to Diego Martin (your return leg will take you through this town). During the 17th century, it served as the water supply for the sugar mills and rum distilleries of the area; this included the historical Water Wheel which was used to crush the sugar cane for these industries.
After the abolition of slavery in 1834, many estates involved in the sugar industry collapsed and were eventually used as cocoa (research) estates. This accounts for the cocoa trees you will notice on the river banks as you make your way out.
